ever since i can remember i’ve been enamored by the glamour of the 1970s.
here are some of my favorite party pics. it’s easy to see that this decade inspires everything that i do! (beware :: #nsfw)
(images via guardian and google)
to me, studio 54 was where it was at! the scene. the sparkle. the freedom. the escape. i’d give anything for just one night behind those velvet ropes…

i can hardly contain myself for this weekend’s LA adventure!
first stop :: “printed matters” exhibit at subliminal projects on sunset.
it incorporates every variety of shepard fairey’s (obey) printed works, including prints on wood, metal, album covers, and fine-art collage papers …and we (my boyfriend and i) are catching it on it’s last day! (ps. must see documentary : exit through the gift shop – a banksy film.)
second & final stop to satisfy my art fix :: a visit to royal/t in culver city. some background info that tickled my fancy… it was built as a “playful collision of spaces—café/shop/art space. it’s an eclectic mix of retail and contemporary art reimagined in the surrounds of LA’s first japanese-style cosplay café” (if you know me anything about me, you must know i have an unhealthy obsession with japanese pop culture). the “café is inspired by the meido kissa (maid café) phenomena of akihabara–tokyo’s electronic district. recontextualizing the underground culture of japan that celebrates cosplay (costume play) waitresses dress in maid uniforms, with a lolita-esque touch and serves a fusion of french and japanese cuisine with local and organic california style. the art space showcases curated exhibitions with a focus on japanese contemporary art; and an inventive concept store emulates the collections’ sophistication–a fusion of pop culture and high-end design.”
iPotty…
our main reason for this visit is to see “the warholian” exhibit curated by eric c. shiner of the andy warhol museum in pittsburgh. some of the artist’s most iconic pieces are shown alongside works by other contemporary artists that share inspiration, themes, and other aspects of warhol’s distinct style (shepard fairey included). the café is following suit with a “bar menu consisting of warhol’s favorite drinks, and a dining menu with selections such as the twiggy salad and the edie sedgwich. a lisa perry pop-up shop, located within the glass walls, carries mod dresses and home accessories featuring limited edition warhol imagery.” i must also add that barbie, the iconic mattel doll, is one of the sponsors for the exhibit – therefore, a barbie dreamhouse collection is on display.

i’ll follow up soon with snaps from my visit :)
